STEM stands for science, technology, engineering, and math. These vital components of every child‘s education can be reached in a lot of ways. Not the least of which is through reading. You know I love to read, so of course I’ve got STEM books for babies, STEM books for preschoolers, and STEM books for kindergarten. This is my list of the best STEM books I can find for every age.

Sound Books

Infants & Toddlers

Okay, Experimenting With Babies might be more for us adults than it is for the kids. Still, I love this fun little book. It is packed with milestones and explains the why behind your infant’s behaviors. The key to a little scientist is a big scientist!
These Science for Babies books are cute. They introduce complex topics such as electromagnetism, physics,  rocket science, and evolution. They are all board books, so perfect for our youngest. And before you get too worried that the topics are too complex, I promise the books are short and simple.
Science isn’t just for boys and it’s important that our children know that. Think Big Little One is full of huge accomplishments by women. This one is to help us all grow.
It takes courage to learn new things and experiment. This Little Trailblazer talks about women in history who did change the world. From the woman who wrote one of the first computer programs to a woman who redesigned the fashion industry. Introduce them to your little one here.

Preschool

There are so many Caterpillar to Butterfly books out there. To be honest, it really doesn’t matter which one you pick. I just happen to know this one. The point is that you can integrate non-fiction books with your children as you do science experiments. And the butterfly science project is a popular and easy one in preschool.
This fun book might be more for adults than it is the kids. In Experimenting with Kids you learn the why behind some of your child’s behavior. I like to explain things to my children though, and they enjoyed hearing about the results of some of the experiments as well.
Hello, Hello is beautifully illustrated and incredibly simple. However, the part of it that isn’t simple is that every beautiful creature that is featured in it is on the endangered species list. The world, and how to live in harmony with it, is one of the most important scientific endeavors we can explore.
I believe If You Give a Mouse a Cookie is the most well known and, let’s be honest, best book in the If You Series. But you know these books. What you maybe have never considered is the cause and effect component to them. That’s right, this adorable, crazy chase after mouse, moose, cat, or pig is actually an introduction to scientific concepts.

Elementary School

I have been recently rereading the Magic School Bus Books and I love them. They give me so much inspiration. They can be a little long for the youngest children, but around kindergarten and 1st grade they start to be a good length.
