The Importance of Reading

The Importance of Reading

Reading, be it in your child’s first year, the early years, or as they grow (link to article coming Spring, 2023), is one of my all time favorite activities. Reading helps build cognition, language comprehension, speech, the list just goes on and on. You should make an effort to read with your child every single day. Books take your children beyond materials and into a whole new world.

Perhaps one of the greatest gifts you can offer to your child is a love of reading. Reading opens minds to other worlds. The learning opportunities are endless. And the best way to grow a love of reading with your child is to take the time to read with them. Not just occasionally, but every single day. Multiple books a day. Make it a special time for you and your child to curl up and explore together.

Reading also broadens your child’s vocabulary. There are words in books that often don’t come up in every day conversation. It gives them a chance to hear new words and learn about different cultures.
