Readingin the first year of your child’s life will help you child with speech, vocabulary, and general learning. For very young children, being able to interact with their books makes reading more enticing. Baby sensory books are what I refer to as Texture Books, anything your child can touch and explore while you read.
I love all the First Wordsbooks, but for this age in particular I encourage the little ones. One picture per page, maybe 6 pages total. Keep it short and simple.
I admit I have mixed feelings about the Never Touch A… series. I have the same reservations around the Don’t Press the Button series as well. The entire book is about doing exactly what you were just told not to do. Once I can look past the crappy message though, I cannot deny how satisfying the textures are in this book.
The That’s Not My series is so much fun and there are so many options. I specifically love the animals, but there are vehicles and mythical creatures as well. Each page has something to touch and feel for your child as well.
This Dr. Seuss adaptation offers some of the earliest rhymes in a touchable, Pet focused way. And if you know anything about Dr. Seuss, you know I don’t mean cats and dogs.
Where’s the Witch is just one of a whole series. These durable, felt flaps offer little surprises under each one. They are short and simple books, perfect for your youngest children.
Cloth Books
Specifically good for the youngest babies, these books are made entirely out of cloth. They have simple, short stories or single words. They are more about exploration.
