Can I admit, I don’t actually love mobiles? Even the best baby mobiles are often a let down. They’re not bad or anything, they just seem like an old concept. The winding and twisting to only last ten seconds. Yet I have to admit that Monster loved them an we ended up with a few. Here are my top 3 recommendations for mobiles to use in the First Year.
Out the gate, hands down, right away, this is my favorite mobile. None of that save the best for last nonsense here. If you are going to get a mobile, I feel I could confidently make the case that this is the only one worth getting.
Okay, I know that sounds a little extreme, but hear me out. This puppy is battery operated. This means you flip a switch and it goes. No endless winding up, no constant monitoring of it. One and Done. As long as it has batteries, it runs. Additionally, there is a a music option and a no music option, easily toggled on and off with a switch.
My second favorite feature of this mobile is its versatility. First, it has an arm, as demonstrated in the picture. That arm can clip onto beds with ease and hang over almost any crib. But it also has a velcro piece at the top of the blue mechanism. This is great for clipping it onto pretty much any other surface you can think of. We could suspend this mobile on play mats, outside, even in the kitchen.
Rating: 10/10. If you want a mobile, this is the best one out there that I’ve found.

Tiny Love Take Along Mobile
If you want a mobile, this is the best one out there that I have found.
Buy NowFor your more traditional mobile, I suggest this model by Trend Lab. It’s a really simple one, which I actually like. It also has an arm to attach onto cribs. It is a wind up feature, so you have to wind it up to make it play. I didn’t think the tune lasted very long, but perhaps that’s just me.
Rating: 7/10. I like its simplicity, and for a mobile, it does exactly what you might expect.
This final option is more than just a simple mobile, it’s a whole play mat with a mobile at the center. The whole mat assembles pretty easily, and it gives you some floor time options as well. The little dancing birds really captured the attention of my kids and encouraged reaching and grabbing since they hang reasonably low. Plus, since the mat grows with your child, it’s a reasonably decent investment.
Rating: 8/10. I always prefer to buy items that will grow with my child and are multi-functional. The play mat meets that preference for me.
