This simple activity is a quick, easy experiment for young children (5-8 years). The low cost supplies are easy to gather and really your kid can do everything themselves.
Supplies:
Steps:
Thread your string through your straw and then tape the ends of the string to opposite sides of the wall. You want your string to be completely obstruction free. The straw should be able to easily move along the string.
Roll a large piece of tape and stick it to a balloon. Make sure there is plenty of sticky for the surface of a balloon to adhere to.
Here is the experiment part. You want to challenge your child to blow the balloon to be exactly as big as it needs to be to move the straw from one end of the string to the other, but not have so much air left over that it keeps running at the end. This will take multiple tries. Talk about what they think will happen, and if the balloon doesn’t go far enough or goes too far, how do they change it to make it work?
Blow the balloon up, don’t tie it, and stick it to the tape on the straw and let go!
