5 Must Eat Foods in Japan

The food in Japan tends to be pretty healthy all around. We ate a lot of rice, ramen, and fresh fish while we were there. They have treats, fried food and all sorts of delicious morsels as well. They have their sweet breads and steam buns and everything in between. The long list of options aside though, here are my 5 must eat foods in Japan.

1. Takoyaki
This food is associated with fairs, just like a lot of our fried foods are. A delicious, fried treat, typically filled with minced or diced octopus.

2. Taiyaki
Similar to a pancake, these delicious treats are fish shaped cakes. Many of them have filling such as red bean paste, custard, chocolate, and cheese.

3. Onigiri
Onigiri is a rice ball with some protein in the center, wrapped with seaweed on the outside to make it easy to eat. Most onigiri is shaped in a triangle and filling can include egg, beef, seaweed, beets, and more.

4. Sushi
You all know how much I love sushi. Well the sushi here is nothing compared to the amazing, fresh, original sushi from Japan. You can’t go wrong, trust me.

5. Japanese Curry
I had no idea there were different types of curry, but apparently there are. Japanese curry was delicious and very filling. Find a nice sit down restaurant and chow down. Remember not to blow your nose though, no matter how spicy it might be.
